Abergwili 3 v Trimsaran 2
A spectacular display in the first 20 minutes of the game was enough to see Abergwili sponsored by Shambys Taxis through to another important 3 points in what is turning out to be a rollercoaster of a season.
Gwili got their first early on as Trimsaran were unlucky to deflect the ball into their own net from a Steve Carmody long throw. Moments later they doubled their lead after Mathew Rowlands saw his header come back off the bar only for Steve Thomas to tap in the re-bound.
With 20 minutes on the clock Abergwili made it 3 v 0 after skipper Aled Williams powered home another Steve Carmody long throw to score his ninth of the season, a remarkable tally seeing as he has played in central defence all season.
After being so dominant in the opening exchanges Gwili's focus dwindled as they allowed Trimsaran back into the game. Some fine saves by Grant Tolchard in the Gwili goal ensured they held on to take all three points.
A special mention goes to Gethin Williams who put in his best performance of the season as well as Tom Bateman who worked tirelessly all game.
Manager Chris Devon said after the game "I'm happy with the boys for the way they started the match. Going 3 goals up was just what we deserved. It's disappointing that we didn't kick on from that position but I have to credit the team for the way they dug in and showed good character to see out the game"
Abergwili now face high flyers West End United next week as they aim to be only the second team this season to stop them from winning.
West End United Reserves 1 v Abergwili Reserves 1
Abergwili Reserves sponsored by Howells European transport rounded off a fine day for Abergwili Football Club as they put in an excellent performance against a very strong West End side.
Gwili travelled to Llanelli with a mixture of youth and experience as they looked to continue their current good run of results.
A superb headed goal from youngster Jonathon Rees secured an excellent away point and the side were unlucky not to come away with more.
Stand out performances from youngsters Rhodri Williams, Mike Morris, Nathan Davies, Jonathon Rees and Sion Williams means that the future looks very bright for Abergwili Football Club.
Abergwili 4 v Llangennech 3
A sensational hat-trick from skipper Aled Williams saw Abergwili pick up there first points under new manager Chris Devon.
The game started on a completely different note for Williams as he gifted the away side the lead in the first half with an unfortunate own goal
The second half saw Abergwili sponsored by Shambys Taxis come into there own with wingers Gethin Williams and Rhodri Williams a constant threat to the Llangennech Defence. Gwili got their just deserves early in the second half as Aled Williams stole in for his first of the afternoon in the correct net from a perfect Aled Thomas corner.
Abergwili then found themselves at a deficit once again as hesitancy in their defence allowed the visitors to take the lead. The introduction of Steve Carmody mid way through the second half was inspirational as his trademark long throw turned out to be food and drink for skipper Williams as he again headed home to bring his side level once again.
With time running Abergwili again slipped behind but Steve Thomas levelled once again from another Steve Carmody long throw.
In the dying seconds of the game Abergwili were awarded a penalty and there was only one man for the job as Aled Williams stepped up under huge pressure to slot home with extreme confidence to give Abergwili a much needed three points.
Manager Chris Devon said after the game how pleased he was that his tactical substitutions paid off and how impressed he was by his sides never give up attitude although he was eager to stress that this was only a small step and that there is still a long way to go.
Abergwili face Llangennech again on Saturday as they look to pick up some more important points.
Penyfan 2 v Abergwili 1
A goal in the 90th minute was enough to send Abergwili sponsored by Shambys Taxis and Howells European transport to their second consecutive league defeat since the turn of the year.
Abergwili found themselves under pressure for the majority of the game but once again dug in deep and defended well as a team and were given a lifeline when Grant Tolchard pulled off a fantastic penalty save mid way through the first half. Gwili were fortunate to find themselves a goal up at half time. Aled Thomas making his first appearance of the season after injury sent Justin Davies through one on one with the keeper who slotted his fifth goal of the season with ease.
Penyfan dominance finally paid dividence as they equalised with 20 minutes remaining after a well taken shot from the edge of the box. Abergwili almost took all the spoils but Aled Williams saw his thunderbolt header come back off the cross bar with minutes remaining.
The game was won in the dying seconds as a lapse of concentration in the Gwili midfield allowed Penyfan to break away and clinch all 3 points with a speculative effort from long range.
Abergwili now face two consecutive games against Llangennech and will need to pick up some valuable points from both games otherwise they will find themselves in a fight for survival as the season comes to a close.
Towy Valley 1 v Abergwili 0
Abergwili sponsored by Shambys Taxis and Howells European transport played their first league game since early December and despite going down one goal to nil they put in a performance full of grit and determination.
Abergwili played the second half with only nine men after loosing youngster Llew Eldred to a knee injury and also Alex James moments later. Despite Towy Valleys' clear numerical advantage skipper and keeper Mark Hannington was kept relatively quite in goal as a defence well marshalled by Aled Williams kept Towy Valley at bay for the majority of the game. A defence that also saw Wayne Lewis and Steve Carmody put in their best performances of the season.
Gwili were desperately unlucky to concede a goal in the last ten minutes in a game which saw them compete and almost snatch victory in almost impossible circumstances. Wingmen Gethin Williams and Mike Morris were a constant threat to a well organised Towy Valley side. The game also saw Mathew Rowlands put in his trademark workman like performance in the centre of the park and Justin Davies and Lloyd Williams worked tirelessly upfront until the final whistle.
Despite the loss Gwili manager Chris Devon will take plenty of positive from the game but will look to pick his first points up next week since taking over officially as the Gwili manager after the turn of the year.
Ammanford 4 v Abergwili 2
Abergwili missed the opportunity to keep pressure on the league leaders as they went down 4 v 2 away to bottom of the table Ammanford.
With the conditions making thing difficult for both teams Abergwili sponsored by Shambys Taxis and Howells European transport made the breakthrough after a stunning 35 yard effort from Aled Williams somehow found its way into the net after the Ammanford keeper mishandled.
It looked likely that Abergwili would extent their lead but a horrendous 5 minute spell before half time saw them go into the interval 2 v 1 down.
The second half saw more Abergwili pressure but it proved in vain as Ammanford stretched their lead further before Gethin Williams got a consolation goal after some good work by Lee Davies.
Abergwili will see this as three points dropped and will look to put things right next week as they face a tough home match against Llandeilo. A positive note for Gwili was that the game saw the debuts of Rhodri Williams and Jonathon Rees who are two promising youngsters and definite players of the future.
Abergwili 3 V Llansteffan 0
In a fiercely contested local derby Abergwili took all the spoils with a fine team display against rivals Llansteffan.
With both teams having indifferent results of late and looking to climb up the league table every ball was contested as if it were a cup final. The first half saw some neat interplay by both teams but no one looked likely to break the deadlock as both defences stood firm leaving the keepers slightly under employed.
Mid way through the second half the game sprung to life as Abergwili took the lead after a truly stunning move. Mark Hannington in the Gwili goal threw the ball to Llew Eldred who in turn gave a neat pass to Gethin Williams who did a slick one two with Andrew Goldsmith before teeing up Mathew Rowlands who drove the ball home at an angle from 20 yards. A goal that was worthy of winning any game.
With minutes remaining Abergwili put the game beyond Llansteffans' reach after Andrew Goldsmith capitalised on a goal keeping error to make it 2 v 0 before Aled Williams slotted home a penalty with the last kick of the game to keep his fine goal scoring run of late going and to seal all three points for Abergwili.
Credit must also be given to Darren Carmody and Chris Devon in the Gwili midfield that not only created opportunities for the Abergwili front men but also gave the defence ample support as they battled hard to continuously brake up any Llansteffan threat.
It is only fair to say Abergwili sponsored by Shambys Taxi and Howells European transport deserved to take all three points from this encounter and they will now need to take the commitment and character they displayed in this local derby into the remainder of the season.
Abergwili 2 V Towy Valley 3
The recent run of fine performances and results for Abergwili came to an end after an indifferent performance against Towy Valley.
Abergwili sponsored by Shambys Taxis and G H International started the better of the two teams and took a deserved lead mid way through the first half after Aled Williams stole in to neatly poke home a Steve Thomas corner.
Gwili seemed to be in control for the remainder of the half until Towy Valley fortunately equalised after a flick on from a long through somehow looped into the net over the helpless Mark Hannington in the Abergwili goal. Towy Valley then shocked Gwili further by making it 2 v 1 to the visitors before the break.
Abergwili then suffered another set back early in the second half finding themselves 3 v 1 down after giving away a needless free kick at the edge of the box. In an attempt to get themselves back into the game Gwili were always in danger of being caught out on the break but some fine saves from Mark Hannington kept their slim hopes alive.
With minutes remaining Andrew Goldsmith pulled a goal back for Gwili with an unstoppable free kick from 20 yards. This set up a frantic last few moments but Towy Valley held on to take all three points. Abergwili would like to thank Evans and Wilkins for their ball sponsorship as they now look to get their season back on track with a local derby home to Llansteffan next Saturday.
Abergwili 3 v Ammanford 1
Abergwili sponsored by Shambys taxi and G H International made it four games unbeaten in the league as they swept aside Ammanford on a warm October day.
Abergwili got off to the worst possible start as they found themselves a goal down within the first minute due to some sloppy play. The Gwili management then looked for a reaction and as always there key players stepped up to the mark as Aled Williams powerfully headed home a Steve Carmody throw to equalise before a low drive by Mathew Rowlands gave them a deserved 2 v 1 lead mid way through the half.
Abergwili dominated the remainder of the half and stretched their lead further through Justin Davies before Ammanford were reduced to ten men after a professional foul just before the break.
With a two goal and man advantage the second half wasn't much of a spectacle with several Gwili players losing concentration and allowing the second half to pass by without taking advantage of the extra player.
The second half saw the introduction of Lee Davies for his first outfield performance of the season and also Gethin Williams brought some much needed pace to the Abergwili attack.
The game ended 3 v 1 and despite Gwili's reLatively poor performance there were still plenty of positives to take from the game, firstly the character and commitment shown by the players to overturn an early set back and secondly the ability to take all three points when not playing at the top of their game can only mean there are good things to come from this team.
Abergwili Reserves 3 Llandeilo Reserves 1
Abergwili got their Darch Cup campaign off to a winning start with an impressive display over a spirited Llandeilo side.
Abergwili started positively and dominated all the early exchanges going deservedly ahead through a well taken goal by Aaron Foschi. Abergwili continued to press, creating numerous chances and should have been further ahead before a mix up at a corner gifted Llandeilo their equaliser. The game remained at level until half-time.
Abergwili started the second half slowly but gradually worked their way back into the game and re-took the lead with a fine header by Lee Cooper. From here on it was all one way traffic as Abergwili dominated and they extended their lead through an excellent solo goal by Johnny Rees.
A special mention must go to Rhodri Williams whose tireless work created numerous chances for Abergwili, and Nathan Davies in goal who thwarted the few chances that came Llandeilo's way.
Abergwili return to league action away to Bwlch next weekend.
Llandeilo 1 v Abergwili 2
The Shambys taxi and G Howells international sponsored Abergwili played their third consecutive away game of the season against promotion hopefuls Llandeilo. Having already dropped points in their opening games Abergwili were determined to take maximum points from this encounter.
Despite their determination it was a disastrous start to the game for Gwili as they found themselves a goal behind after 3 minutes and were under pressure for large periods in the opening exchanges.
Midway through the half Abergwili got themselves a breakthrough as Justin Davies latched on to a Andrew Goldsmith flick on to score the equaliser.
This goal gave Gwili the confidence they required to take into the rest of the game as Andrew Goldsmith came close to giving the away side a half time lead but was unlucky to see his effort rebound of the post.
The second half saw Abergwili grow further in confidence and after some neat interplay Justin Davies got his second of the match and the winning goal with a terrific 20 yard drive which left the Llandeilo keeper with no chance. Abergwili were unlucky not to extend their lead further as Aled Williams cam close on a number of occasions from the trade mark Steve Carmody long throw.
This was a much welcomed win for Gwili having had some tough fixtures in the opening weeks of the season and credit must be given to the entire team as this truly was a determined performance starting from Mark Hannington in goal to the rest of the players involved with a special mention to Llew Eldred, Lloyd Williams and Mike Morris who all put in performances showing the future looks bright with a number of youngsters within the ranks.
The game also saw the much welcomed return of Chris Devon in midfield after missing the start of the season through injury.
Llan Rads 3 v Abergwili 3
Abergwili gained there first point of the season with a hard fought draw against Llan Rads. Both teams struggled in the early exchanges in the mid September heat but it was Abergwili who made the break through after Mike Morris struck a sensational volley into the net from 30 yards after some good work from Andrew Goldsmith.
Llan Rads found their way back into the game will two goals in quick succession mid way through the half put a powerful header from Aled Williams made the score level at 2 all minutes before the interval.
It was much of the same story in the second half with both teams looking for the win and the sun making it difficult for both defences to clear high balls. A goal with 20 minutes remaining from Llan Rads looked to have sealed the victory but Abergwili put in their best move of the game which saw Justin Davies head home a Llew Eldred looping cross after some neat interplay on the right.
A draw seemed a fair result at the end of this game but Abergwili will now look to take maximum point from their next game away to Llandeilo.
West End 4 v Abergwili 2
Abergwili got there 2009/10 campaign off to a poor start after going down 4 v 2 against West End in a game they really should have won.
Abergwili cruised into a 2 v 0 lead at half time after two terrific headers from Grant Tolchard one coming from and Alex James free kick and the other from a trademark long throw from Steve Carmody.
After being in control in the first half Abergwili were taught a harsh lesson in the second half as West End seemed to be able to score at ease scoring 4 goals to take all the points in their opening game.
More worryingly for Gwili would be the fact that they seemed satisfied with their performance but will have to realise that the game is played over 90 minutes and not 45. However Gwili are able to take some positives from this game into the rest of the season.
